I think i'm finally able to answer Mr Jovi's Question on why we chose Graffiti our FYP topic
i wil be repeating this during tomorrow's presentation.. of coz summersied ver..
But in case i mumble and forget my speech as always, i think i should blog it down..
ps.i tend to write more then i speak...

I know everyone thinks that anybody can do graffiti. Just take out a maker and draw !
But thats just on the surface thinking
Thats only pointing towards those scrawls on the wall.
But if you look at works of professional graffiti artist, theres a whole lot more meaning to them.

One personal reason why i personally chose graffiti is because i like it's freeform style, its striking colors, its originality. I like the messiness, being able to have an identity of our own.

Graffiti to me is a freeform art. It enables one to express oneselve without being subjected to any form of oppression, threat, propaganda, influences. It comes right from oneself.
Its like a child drawing her first picture. Drawing out her true emotions and feelings

Before entering poly, skecthing, drawing was my hobby, a getaway from all the stress. At least a few drawings everyday
Drawing whatever i like, without aany pressure, or critisms.
But after enrolment, with many others having skills better then us, we tend to lose confidence..
in addition, we dont see a need to draw. we're too focused on animatiom, most of the time grabbing images from the web.

There isnt doing it for "passion" kinda feeling anymore.

In school, we are constantly given projects which aims to satisfy audiences, clients. We're subjected to crits, to opinions, what other people like.
Most of the time theres nothing about the project that truely comes from us.
We are already programmed to cater to the needs of other people.

Like what my lectuerer have said. FYP is kinda the time whereby we can use it to think about what we really want to do in our future if we dont end up in MG.

Graffiti allows this freedom for me to explore other areas of art.
I cant gurentee that we'll end up creating a masterpiece graffiti art work.
Actually I'm not confident of it at all.
I can already imagine lectureres critisizing our work badly.
I dont think anyone can be a great artist within a mere few months
But even if at the end of it all, if we were to come up with artwork which doesnt please anyone, i wouldnt regret doing this.

Alot of the time we focus on the outcome, whether out reel, our video looks good. Nobody really cares about the process. The usual case of someone who worked really hard but coming out with stuff which arent really of good standard have lower grades or are critisized...
Its not that they do not want to produce good works, its just that they cant cross that "line" yet...
Somethings cant be helped....

I may work hard agan just for the grades, coming up with just another clip.
I can do many of that in the future, many more in FYP1...

This time i feel that i should do something diff, something non releated to having to stare at the computer and produce another clip which is pleases the audience...

I feel that the process is what's that important.
Taking down Graffiti as topic, it really pushes me to sit down and think about what i feel, what i want. Having thought about that will i only be able to draw what i like.
It allows me to cover many differnt art forms because graffiti is freestlye.
Graffiti is actually art , just that it's called vandalism beacuse of the medium in which people use.
Walls, private property.. Other then that, if we're to place it in a museum.. it'll be a whole different story.

If i were to at the beginning chose that topic of "michangelo" , then i would have to stick with it throughout this whole 16 weeks and not bein able to change if i feel that its not what i like.
But with graffiti, i can draw a mural of michangelo, yet stylise it in the way that i prefer, even being able to fuse other artforms together. Theres flexibility...

In summery... This topic is something like Creative Nonsense...
If you still dont get what i mean...

Yea, Thats about it...
If mr jovi still cant be convinced.. Then ive nothing more to say
Peace!
