My thoughts on street art/Graffiti. (Serene)

Before touching on this topic, i thought of street art or to be exact, graffiti, a form of art. I thought that graffiti artists paint on the walls cause they like it; they just spray the paints without planning or sketching. cause they have talent, thus they can do it.

Never would i know that its considered a form or vandalism and you can actually be prosecuted if you do graffiti on public places without permission.

After reading tones and tones of articles on street arts/graffiti, i realized that there's a lot more behind all the paints and graphics on the walls,doors,cement ground and streets. Political, social, sexual, etc issues actually started all this artworks. And way before all these issues started, graffiti is actually first found in the ancient egypt carvings on walls. Then later on, the advertising part came in; then, it became intertwine with the Hip Hop culture. Graffiti plays a large part in helping the artists to communicate to the public. It helps them express themselves freely; and gets critics(be it good or bad) free-of -charge.

And of course, like all other art forms,it needs practice and lots of sketching and planning(for complicated art pieces like murals,wildstyles, masterpieces,etc).

Art or crime? Its how you perceive it.

Passion and excitement are the factors that keep them going. Although they know that they are challenging the laws and putting themselves at the risk of being caught. I love their attitude and spirit. I think this is what we should learn from them. Keep on going cause "I LIKE TO DO IT."
